  • Get a sneak peak at the Oak Leaf Light Towers

It looks like someone forgot to turn the power off to one of the towers on the City Plaza site. This was the first time I’ve seen any splash of color on the still under construction public art piece. From what I recently learned, this is but a pale shadow of what these 50+ ft. towers are capable of.

  • Cupcake Shoppe gets the Goodnight, Raleigh! treatment

The Cupcake Shoppe had a recent brush with fame when owner Sara Coleman had the opportunity to introduce President Obama at a Health Care Town Hall at Broughton. Now the Shoppe is getting the Goodnight, Raleigh! treatment with gorgeous photos from John Morris.

  • A Lite Bright Moth

I grew up in a cornfield, so I’ve seen plenty of beige moths – no big deal. But check out this bright orange guy caught on camera by bird blogger Dave. His orange colors against a black grill are quite pretty – for a moth! Dave also has some nice pix of birds this week.

  • Don’t they get dizzy?

I love time-lapse stuff. This video, passed along by Durham blog Wehr in the World, shows the crazy flight paths of bugs. Sounds odd, looks cool.

  • Beach Snooze

I swear, half of North Carolina was on Interstate 40 Sunday coming back from the beach. Cliff Pant One was at Myrtle, and she shared this photoof a sandy sleeper from her trip.

  • A Beautiful Storm Over Downtown Raleigh

Goodnight Raleigh recently posted a beautiful photograph of a storm forming over the Civic Center area of downtown Raleigh. Enjoy.

  • Finding the silver lining

Working in the news biz can be a bit depressing some days. But photographer Shawn Rocco’s latest post is an inspirational reminder of the good news that can be found, such as a recent fundraiser for a girl who needs a liver transplant.

  • Local burlesque dancer reviews The Roast Grill

A few weeks ago I remember seeing a photo or a blog post that included a photo of a photo shoot happening outside Raleigh’s Roast Grill (tell me if it was yours, I can’t remember). Today, I figured out what the photo shoot was for. It was for burlesque dancer Cherry Bomb NYC.

  • Other Countries in person, on the Web

It’s no secret that Tift Merritt is multi-talented. Not only has she recently released a phenomenal new live album, The Mahler in downtown Raleigh is featuring her photography as its first exhibit. If you don’t have time to head to The Mahler in person, Tift is also showcasing her work online.

  • Tift Merritt brings music, photos home

Leave it to Tift Merritt to make photos of people looking at Rodin exhibits into art. After all, she is a respected songwriter, singer, performer and photographer. Merritt returns home to Raleigh this week for a concert and new exhibit. Read this interview from David Menconi from the N&O.
