  I wish more Triangle photographers had photo blogs. Maybe they do and I just haven’t come across them yet. One of my favorites is the blog N&O photojournalist Shawn Rocco produces. In his latest post, he reminisces about his 2008 New Year’s assignment in Pasadena and how he hopes it will motivate him this year.

• NCCU Restores Historic Building

  It was originally the home of Dr. James Shephard, founder of what is now North Carolina Central University. After deteriorating for many years, it has been fully and beautifully restored.

• Carolina Rollergirls crush their challengers, take a look

  I’ve been to roller derby bouts before, but I never saw the Carolina Rollergirls until this weekend. They were astounding. Tough and hardworking. Take a look at this slideshow one of my coworkers put together from Saturday’s bout. My favorite is the last photo of the little girls getting autographs.

  I so wanted to go to the Sarah Palin rally at Elon University earlier this month. If she makes it to the Triangle before Election Day, I’ll definitely be there front and center covering her for 30THREADS. Indy photographers Derek Anderson and Jeremy Lange were at Elon though and put together this amazing slideshow.

• Barack Obama bat signal appears in downtown Raleigh

  I was walking to Raleigh Times Friday night when I spotted Barack Obama’s face shining on the side of a building. I told the person who I thought would appreciate it most (not b/c of his political beliefs, but b/c of his mad night time photography skills). Check out Goodnight, Raleigh’s photo.

• Muppets, Jail and the Bible?
