Travel & Outdoors

  • This is what a vacation to Disney World is really like

Usually when my friends tell me about trips to Disney World, the reviews are all the same. It was magical, it was fun, I took a lot of pictures with the characters. Blah Blah Blah. So I really love this funny recap a Triangle blogger offers of Day 1 at the theme park:

  • Blogger pleas: IKEA Raleigh-Durham wants you

A Triangle blogger recently made her first trip to IKEA. She tried the meatballs in the cafeteria, scored some new wares for her bedroom and even checked her child into the play area. Her conclusion? Charlotte isn’t close enough; the Triangle needs an IKEA:

  • A Lite Bright Moth

I grew up in a cornfield, so I’ve seen plenty of beige moths – no big deal. But check out this bright orange guy caught on camera by bird blogger Dave. His orange colors against a black grill are quite pretty – for a moth! Dave also has some nice pix of birds this week.

  • Track the North Carolina Ag Department’s trip to China

A delegation from the North Carolina Agriculture Department is in China this week on a trade mission to expand markets for North Carolina goods like tobacco and cotton. The trip is being documented on the department’s blog, so you can follow along.

  • Trip delay causes local photographers to take break for Locopops

I told you earlier this week about the cross country trip that Raleigh photographers Helena and Tim are making. If they continue to document their trip this well, I’m going to be glued to their blog. Check out Helena’s description on Day One in Durham and then watch this video:

  • Raleigh couple to blog about travels across the country

Over the next couple weeks you’ll get to travel vicariously through a website produced by Raleigh residents Helena and Tim. The pair will be traveling across the country, documenting their trip with photos and more on their site: Well Done Media. Gogoraleigh has these details:

  • How many things have you done on this list of Southern fun?

If you’re vacationing in the South this summer, then take a look at this list of Southern things to do compiled by a Southern Living magazine intern. The list gives a shout out to Durham’s Nasher Museum, but there are a lot of other gems too:

  • Beach Snooze

I swear, half of North Carolina was on Interstate 40 Sunday coming back from the beach. Cliff Pant One was at Myrtle, and she shared this photoof a sandy sleeper from her trip.

  • 13 ways to have fun for free in North Carolina

Often a Staycation can be more relaxing than a vacation, especially in this economy. I saw this list of 13 free things to do in North Carolina and had to pass it along, even though only a few are in the Triangle.

  • New York Times gives shout out to Triangle landmarks

The New York  Times Travel section has an awesome article this weekend called “36 Hours in Research Triangle, N.C.” that details 11 things visitors must do when they come to the Triangle. The list includes the art walk at the N.C. Museum of Art, beer at Raleigh Times and shopping at Father & Son.
