Does article help little-known candidate?
The Indy has a lengthy article about Lee Sartain, a 28-year-old candidate for Raleigh City Council, that explores his campaign (the good and the bad). It seems to me that the article wouldn’t help his campaign, but several commenters say it has swayed them toward Sartain. Decide for yourself:

A look at the latest NBC17 blog commercial
We’ve launched a few on-air commercials for some of the blogs at NBC17. The latest is for meteorologist Wes Hohenstein’s blog and it’s so funny. Maybe it’s just b/c I know Wes & I’m not used to seeing him in casual garb. But I think this is better than most TV promos you see:

Do you keep up with local news when you’re on vacation?
One of my favorite local bloggers has been out-of-town for over a month working on a project. He returned realizing that even though he read the local news online, he didn’t feel particularly informed. Dan Gearino explains why he thinks that is on his blog:

Published e-mails offer glimpse into how a News and Observer reporter feels about national story
I know this is old news to some of you, but I just now read this post. Gawker published an e-mail exchange between a News & Observer reporter and McClatchy DC editor about coverage of a lawsuit claiming the founder of Blackwater was responsible for murders in Iraq.

Local newspaper ditches original reporting, publishes press release
Durham residents recently recieved these huge recycling carts as part of a city effort to revamp the program. Kevin at Bull City Rising points out that The Herald-Sun did not write an article on the change. Instead, they just reran a city press release. Lame or OK?

Follow the Barrel Monster on Twitter
Support for Joseph Carnevale — the artist behind the now infamous Hillsborough Street Barrel Monster — has been phenomenal. The story’s been picked up by AP and subsequently WaPo, the Facebook groups total more than 4,000 supporters and now it looks like the Barrel Monster is on Twitter.
