  • New website shows off history of North Carolina buildings

If you’re interested in North Carolina architecture, then you’ll want to check out this new website that catalogs more than 300 buildings in the state. The catalog features details on the architect, builders and more. It’s an amazing resource. Thanks to New Raleigh for pointing it out.

  • High School students show off Triangle Modernist Houses

I dont know what I’m more impressed with: That students at Enloe High School put together this cool video about the Triangle Modernist Houses or that they set it to Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”

  • Two-story Harris Teeter coming to North Hills

It already feels like there’s a Harris Teeter on every corner, and now more are coming to Raleigh. N&O reporter Sue Stock says a 2-story Teet  is coming to North Hills at the end of the year. Also, one is openingat U.S.1 and New Falls of Neuse on May 27 (my birthday).

  • The finally hours of the Garland H. Jones building caught on camera

My beloved Garland H. Jones building in downtown Raleigh has finally been whacked with teh wrecking ball. New Raleigh has some photos of the demolition process.

  • Jordan Lake is polluted and here’s why you should care

If you’ve been ignoring the Jordan Lake pollution story b/c it seems to complicated and not relevant to you, then here’s your chance to catch up. N&O reporter Jim Wise did an excellent job summarizing the issue in his long, but easy to read, story on the problem:

  • N.C. Museum of Art to temporarily close in September

Unless I’m misreading this N&O article, the N.C. Museum of Art will close it’s old building in September and it will not reopen until April 2010 when it’s new expansion project is slated to be complete. The N&O has a detailed story about the expansion project, which includes a lot of natural light.

  • Durham sign fail

Gary spotted this faux historic sign painted on the rear of the historic Kress building in downtown Durham. He’s not pleased at all. Check out the photo he posted on his blog of what he’s pretty much calling a Durham sign fail. Do you agree with him?

  • Fun Fact: WTVD used to be located at the site of the former Durham jail

Gary has the details on how WTVD used to occupy the former Durham jail and TB sanitarium. He even has some cool old school photos of the site … including some patients who look a little too happy for being confined to their beds.

  • The Raleigh-Cary area is fastest growing in the nation

The latest Census numbers show that a portion of the Triangle is growing faster than any other metropolitan area in the nation, the N&O reports. The breakdown does not include Chapel Hill or Durham because of the way the Triangle is split up for these things.

  • Renovations on tap for Hillsborough Street

Raleigh’s Hillsborough Street will get some major improvements under a $9.9 million contract the City Council approved yesterday. Bob Geary explains the changes, which include a roundabout in front of the N.C. State Bell Tower. See his blog for the details:
