  • Two Raleigh Blockbusters are closing

I can’t say I’m surprised. Who rents videos from video stores anymore? With Red Box and NetFlix making it more convienent to rent movies, I’ve been wondering how Blockbuster is staying in business. Raleigh Downtowner has the details.

  • Reader’s Corner pays to keep “This American Life” on WUNC

If you’ve never visited Reader’s Corner bookstore on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh, you’re going to want to after reading John’s post about it on Goodnight, Raleigh. John tells us some interesting tidbits about the business including that the store paid to bring “This American Life” to WUNC. Sweet!

  • Durham movie theater selling everything from concessions to speakers

The shuttered Carmkie movie theater on Avondale in Durham is liquidating the contents of the theater today and tomorrow. So if you have a need for a popcorn popping table, projectors and the like, you might want to look into this:

  • Wake Forest company wins worst website competition

A Cary marketing agency recently held a contest to find the worst website, and they sure succeeded. A Wake Forest-based company won the contest (hardly an honor) and wins a $9,000 prize package from Strategic Guru (which hopefully includes a resigned site. Here’s the link:

  • Peak Fitness is closing all of its Triangle area gyms

The closures come just as the gym closed its downtown Raleigh branch, the N&O reports. But Greg Hatem,  owner of the building that housed the downtown Peak Fitness location, says he’s in talks to bring another gym there ASAP. In the meantime, Peak Fitness members can go to Lifestyle to work out.

  • Indy Week runs down the best of the Triangle

Because the “Best of the Triangle” is a readers’ poll, blame can’t really be put on Indy Week. However, I can fault the readers for voting Chapel Hill Comics as the “Best Comic Book Store.” Maybe if you’re looking for graphic novels, collections or manga; but not comics. It’s still a very nice store, though.

  • Raleigh residents won’t have to wait much longer for Trader Joe’s

I happen to know there  are a lot of Raleigh residents excited about the opening of Trader Joe’s on Wake Forest Road in Raleigh. But the opening date hasn’t been pinned down until now. Trader Joe’s officials say the store will open in October, which is quick considering it hasn’t even been built yet:

  • Miley Cyrus won’t come to Wilmington to film Disney movie

Wilmington could have been the setting for a new Nicholas Sparks movie being made by Disney. And get this, it stars Miley Cyrus (I’m predicting it’s going to suck b/c that kid can’t act). But the N&O explains the movie deal fell apart thanks to our state’s tax laws.

  • What’s the weirdest work dream you’ve ever had?

I dream about work all the time. That’s why I’ve stopped checking my Blackberry right before bed. Raleigh blogger Laurie, a former HR executive, had a hilarious dream last night involving President Obama. Head over to her blog for a laugh.
