Music Hall of Fame coming to NC, but why Kannapolis?
NewRaleigh post a few of the great musical talents that has came out of the state of NC such as Thelonious Monk, Shirley Caesar and Earl Scruggs. The post talks about how Carolinians have shaped the music industry and wonders why NC picked Kannapolis for the Hall of Fame location.
Wayne Sutton
Many people might believe that the young James Taylor was baptized in the ol’ well at UNC on the day of his birth, although he was actually born in Boston. Both he and Tift Merrit were born outside the state, but graduated from the University of North Carolina. But nowhere in the entire state are all of these musicians and their achievements showcased. Why doesn’t North Carolina have a Music History Museum? Also, why is North Carolina creating the NC Music Hall of Fame in Kannapolis?

Why Kannapolis?
The N.C. Hall of Fame is supported by the Curb Family Foundation — which is headed by country music mogul, Mike Curb.
His label, Curb Records, has country music stars like Tim McGraw, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams III, Patti Page, Leann Rimes and the like.
Curb Motorsports also set off the career of the the greatest NASCAR drivers, like Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty.
To my point, Mike Curb is friends with David Murdock, owner of Dole Food Company. They both live in California and have known each other for a long time. Murdock is developing the North Carolina Research Campus on the old site of Cannon Mills. He also owns the downtown business district.
Curb Motorsports Museum is also located in Kannapolis. When Murdock needed the land the old museum was located on, he built Curb a new museum.
And now Murdock and Curb have reached an agreement to renovate one of the buildings downtown — the old Kannapolis jailhouse — into a museum for the N.C. Music Hall of Fame.
That’s why it will be located in Kannapolis.

Also, to add, this is not a state museum. It is a private non-profit group that is working with Mike Curb on the N.C. Music Hall of Fame.
