Texting While Driving Banned Tomorrow

We are all at fault for eagerly responding to a text message while cruisin’ down the road but tomorrow that will be illegal. However, texting while driving is not illegal for police officers. How do you feel about that?

dsutton

Tomorrow (Tuesday December 1st) this ban goes into law. If caught texting while driving on a public road or in a public parking lot, drivers will be fined $25 for minors and up to $100 for school bus drivers.

I’m curious why a cop needs to be texting at all? And how will we determine if a cop’s text is work related?

This law is dumb. How are they going to prove I was texting? What if I am using the GPS feature on my phone or taking a call? Neither of those are illegal. They would have to get a search warrant from my mobile provider to prove that I actually sent a text at the time they said it occurred. Seems like a waste of time and resources.

I also agree with Howard. Why does a cop need to be texting? Dont they have something called a radio that they can use to talk to dispatch? Why in the world should they be texting anyone while on the job?

Proponents of the law probably mean well, but it still is patently ridiculous. I wonder what the percentage of early cases tossed out of court will be.

It is better to drive on the road rather than go off the road into a lake or fence. Everyone has to be responsible for their own safety and that of others on the road. Mobile application drivesafe.ly helps me to listen to text messages while driving.
