@suburbanroot I definitely use a lot of my plastic bags to clean out the litter box ... but we get so many of them that there are still plenty leftover. I guess if they banned them I would have to buy bags to clean out the kitty box. ... But I know it would definitely force me to remember my reuseable bags (which I have plenty of, but always forget to put back in my car after I use).

I don't see so many plastic bags around, but lots of beer and fortified wine bottles, soda bottles, fast food bags and cartons, etc.

A large number of NC residents seems to view the world as their trash can, and if it's not plastic bags they are throwing from their window then it will be something else. I don't know if this proposed law, if passed, with do much to actually tackle the problem of litter.

The article states that only 1% to 3% of plastic bags are recycled. Maybe this is because they are difficult to recycle? In CA we had curbside recycling for lots of things that you can't here - plastic bags, and all #1 and #2 plastic containers, not just necked bottles. Seems like our recycling efforts are lacking.

This is silly to me. There are plenty of secondary uses for plastic bags (e.g. - dog poop, at least for me and my fiancee). Tax them if you want to change behavior. It is also unfair to impose stuff like this on "big business", while leaving smaller businesses alone. Who defines which is which?

Also, where does Sen. Stein live where he sees plastic bags flying around all over the place? I rarely see them littered about -- am I going to the wrong parts of the city?

Absolutely we should ban plastic bags, or at least make them biodegradable. For some reason, people seem to think their car window is a trash can. Not only is it an eyesore, but harmful to the environment.

Agreed. Moreover, do you know that IKEA made $M charging for plastic bags? So, if the city wants to make more $$, just tax the bags.

There are stores (Wholefoods) that already discount your bill if you bring in your own.
