  Raleigh-based Public Policy Polling has an interesting recap of where North Carolina voters stood a year ago today. At the time, McCain led Obama. Also, only 39 percent of North Carolina residents named the economy as their top issue. My how things change.

• A look at downtown Durham in 1967

  If you want to know how the Triangle has come since the Civil Rights Movement, just take a look at the photos from the Negro Open Housing March posted on Endangered Durham. The photos were taken in downtown Durham in 1967. Gary posted them on his blog in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

  Big Boss Brewery seems to have the lockdown on the Raleigh beer scene, but a new brand is rolling into town. LoneRider is set to open to the public Jan. 23 with a hefeweizen that received good reviews on New Raleigh.

• NBC17 anchor shares his father’s story of surving flight 1549 crash

  When US Airways flight 1549 went down last week, things got a little tense in the newsroom at NBC17. The father of our anchor Donald Jones was on the flight. In Donald’s latest blog post, he describes how he found out his father was on the plane and includes a video interview with his dad.

  I’m a huge fan of LOL cats and so is Raleigh blogger Laurie Ruetimmann. Her latest blog post made me LOL because she refutes tech evangelist Robert Scoble’s advice to remove all LOL cat references from your blog if you’re looking for a job. Her post is hilarious!

• New furniture store aims to save time for shoppers

  Raleigh flaneur John Morris spotted a new furniture shop on Glenwood South this weekend and took some photos of it. The place is called Hipsteria Modern and it’s barely open, John reports. The business is operating on limited hours until it officially opens Feb. 21. Looks like a good find.

• It might snow in the Triangle tonight
