It’s almost time for the Krispy Kreme Challenge, a disgustingly amusing race where competitors run two miles, eat a dozen donuts and then run two more miles to the finish line. Some local Twitter users (tweeple) have formed a team, among them is Jeff Cohen. Watch his donut eating training regime:

Get this. A recently-elected Durham County Commissioner wrote a letter to the editor (in this weekend’s Herald-Sun) complaining about his high water bill. Kevin at Bull City Rising thought this was strange and did some research, look at his interesting findings about this elected official.

Carolina Rollergirls crush their challengers, take a look
I’ve been to roller derby bouts before, but I never saw the Carolina Rollergirls until this weekend. They were astounding. Tough and hardworking. What will you be like when you’re 97?
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I’ll be like when I’m gray-haired and pushing a walker around. I hope I’m a fraction of what Karolyn Cleveland was like. At 97, she was among the most active residents at Glenaire retirement community in Cary. Her obituary shows us a truly spry, sweet woman.
