  • Another awkward conversation in a Raleigh elevator

    As a courier, Mary frequently visits the courthouse in downtown Raleigh. As such, she often has interesting exchanges with the security guards and other courthouse visitors. She regularly features awkward moments on her blog. The latest comes from an exchange in the courthouse elevator.

  • Beer lovers will totally appreciate this podcast

    I love good beer, and I totally have the Flying Saucer to thank for it. With nearly 300 different beers available, and a club you can sign up for that encourages you to try 200 of them, it’s hard not to develop an appreciation for beer. Tyler Dukes does an outstanding job of highlighting it.

    A 7,000-watt beam of light could soon be shooting up from downtown Durham’s skyline. Capitol Broadcasting is negotiating with the city to have one of Spanish artist Jaume Plensa’s sculptures installed in front of the new Durham Performing Arts Center. You may remember that Raleigh passed up a similar opportunity:

    This story redeems my faith in teenagers, although maybe it shouldn’t. An N&O reporter was apparently wandering around the fair and saw this group of teens with a sign that said free hugs. So they interviewed the kid getting the hugs. Turns out he was just bored and having fun. Sweet or creepy?

    Props to New Raleigh for spotting the grammatical error in a new sign on Glenwood Avenue. The sign outside the new Dunkin’ Donuts shop features a misplaced apostrophe. Take a look at the photo to see where this piece of punctuation was placed.
