I've mentioned here before that I haven't owned a TV since 2002, and when I encounter one, I either leave it alone, ignore it if that's possible, and put in my earbuds if it isn't possible to ignore. When I stay at hotels, even though there is a TV in the room, I don't ever turn it on. In the airports, where I can't get away from one blaring out CNN or some "Airport TV" or something, I put in my earbuds. I guess all you can do is ignore public TVs.
