When it comes to roaches, Paul doesn’t flinch. The Durham resident admits he’d rather not see one when he’s dining out, but even if it happens, he doesn’t freak out. In fact, there’s something he’s been seeing in Bull City restaurants that may bug him even more than roaches.

But there is something else infesting restaurants all over Durham, the sight and sound of which can turn my stomach and sour my appetite. This vile thing is becoming more and more inescapable in our city’s eateries and can be seen even in the classy restaurants that in the past would have been free of it. This thing I’m talking about doesn’t fly, doesn’t crawl, doesn’t lay eggs, but it visits its own brand of contamination on an establishment nonetheless.

I guess all you can do is ignore public TVs. I’ve mentioned here before that I haven’t owned a TV since 2002, and when I encounter one, I either leave it alone, ignore it if that’s possible, and put in my earbuds if it isn’t possible to ignore.
When I stay at hotels, even though there is a TV in the room, I don’t ever turn it on. In the airports, where I can’t get away from one blaring out CNN or some “Airport TV” or something, I put in my earbuds.

Think Geek (and several other places) have key chain sized remotes that will turn off most TVs.
