  • The best local spots to watch soccer

This weekend is apparently a big deal for futbol fans. The folks at the Raleigh Philosophical Society are already trying to figure out the good spots to watch the English Premier League matches. They have a couple of suggestions of where you can catch the games, but they’re seeking more.

  • Something is infesting Durham restaurants

When it comes to roaches, Paul doesn’t flinch. The Durham resident admits he’d rather not see one when he’s dining out, but even if it happens, he doesn’t freak out. In fact, there’s something he’s been seeing in Bull City restaurants that may bug him even more than roaches.

  • Finding balance as a social media parent

Jeff Tippett a social media strategist, a parent of three kids and an all around cool guy wrote an interesting article on the Social Media mom blog about how he spends his time using social media. • Is the new “visitRaleigh” logo hot or not?

If you haven’t had a chance to see the new Raleigh logo unveiled last month by the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, then this probably isn’t the best introduction for you. The colorful logo is being analyzed by graphic artists and other critics, and they’re not dishing out compliments.

  • tick tock the twitter clock, spending time using social media but for what?

Greg over at getcontagio.us recently visited his parents & tried to show them the value of social media (twitter, facebook, etc). But it looks like he left questioning are we spending to much time online where we could be volunteering at the soup kitchen. Do we?

  • It’s almost time for hot sauce and beer

The guys at Triangle Brewing Company reminded me of some very important information. It’s almost time for the Durham World Beer Festival. This year it will be at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park instead of its regular spot at the older park where Bull Durham was filmed.

  • Are high school reunions still fun?

Facebook and MySpace have taken away some of the mystery surrounding high school class reunions. The social networks allow us to connect with people we haven’t thought about in years, decades even, and see exactly what they’re up to. But Raleigh resident Dominique, is still looking forward to her 10-year reunion.

  • 24/7 security at the Olympics

With everything going on with the Olympics security is a hot topic. Over at the Duke Thinking Online blog they posted about how there were over 100,000 security personnel at the Olympics. The post is referencing is that newsworthy or not compared to how does an athlete feel about having someone with them 24/7.

  • Hanging out with some bugs

Here’s an interesting way to spend a Saturday night: Collecting bugs. Valerie took her son to the Museum of Life and Science in Durham to sit in the dark and use bright lights to attract bugs.
