  • Love connection at the Durham jail

I so love reading the “missed connections” on craigslist. The scenarios that folks describe can be hilarious, and you’ve got to wonder where their relationship would go if they ever found the person they’re hunting. This one is for the “blonde girl with dread at Durham jail yesterday.”

  • Girls like beer too

As a gal who can appreciate a good beer, I can empathize with “the Marquise” when she says sometimes it feels like bartenders don’t tell her about the stronger beers they offer. But she didn’t have that problem when she tried out “Foothills Brewing” in Winston-Salem. She offers her review.

  • No preps for you

I read this blog post in amazement, could it be true? Is Brooklyn Heights, the new bar on Glenwood South, turning away preppy patrons? William Needham Finley rants about the supposed dress code after he and his buddies were turned away for sporting pastel polos.

  • Who has the best burgers in Durham?

That’s the question on “Eat at Joe’s,” the Durham food blog we introduced you to last week. More than 200 votes were cast, but the vote remains too tough to call. It’s between Dain’s Place, The Federal and Wimpy’s.

  • Talking politics on vacation

I get such a rush when I debate politics. Regardless of where you stand politically, it’s awesome to be able to convince someone to look at things in a different way. That happened to Betsy, who had a chance to debate the transfer tax with some of her Republican acquaintances.

  • Four-story buildings for Durham’s Ninth Street?

The Durham City Council is expected to review the future development/growth plan for Ninth Street (Durham’s equivalent of Franklin Street). The plan says that buildings as high as 45 feet could go up, but nearby residents aren’t so sure that’s a good idea.

  • How to meet a soap star

Here’s a way to get closer to a sexy soap star: Become president of their fan club. That’s what Clayton resident Lisa Sullivan did. She’s in charge of the official Jason Gerhardt fan club (he plays Cooper Barret on General Hospital). Lisa recently went to Hollywood to meet him.

  • How would you fix the Olympics?

To some nothing may not be wrong with the Olympics but over at the FlipperandMe blog, the author list seven ways how they would transform the Olympics back into an amateur athletic competition. Interesting is that what we want? How would you change the Olympics?

  • Nastiness in the break room

What does your break room refrigerator look like? I showed you mine a few months ago. Now Jeni shows us hers and it isn’t pretty. She won’t tell us where she works, but I’m super curious because she wrote in her comments that it’s a little ironic.

  • 62 miles of heat, with only 3 stops, all on a bike

It looks like Hillsborough, NC just held a bikefest and members of the Keefer  family not only helped out but participated in the 62 mile bike race.  They blogged about their 4am start and preparation for the big day.
