Yes! Please tell me where to go in Raleigh or at least the Triangle. When I went to that place on Chatham, there was MSG in the sauce. HELLO! No thank you!

I did have good NC BBQ once at a private event where there was a pitmaster.

The best BBQ I've had in NC was at a block party where a neighbor of ours slow cooked an entire pig for the whole day in a smoker, then chopped it up and dumped it on my plate when I walked up. I had to bring my own sauce though, they only had vinegar. ;)

I'm not a fan of BBQ (well, the "sauce")... The only ribs I *somewhat* like are dry rub. The curse of a picky eater.

Any of the places on the NC BBQ Society's historic BBQ trail should be a good stop. In the Triangle, you'll want to hit up Allen & Son's in Chapel Hill.

I love just about any and all bbq, and related foods. I prefer the vinegar based sauces to mustard-based and pork ribs over beef ribs. There's nothing better than slow cooking a pork butt on the Weber Smoker for 8-12 hours.

A year ago I would have said that Wilbur's is the best - but Ed Mitchell, their former pitmaster is now running the show at The Pit here in downtown Raleigh. The idea of an upscale BBQ joint causes me some cognitive dissonance, but the BBQ at the Pit is some of the best I've had. I run over there for lunch at least once a week.

Of course, if you want *real* NC BBQ, you have to find a burly guy in overalls cooking a pig in a cut up oil drum. There's a guy fitting that description who brings his rig out to Fantasy Lake for SCUBA events sometimes, and his 'Cue is hard to beat.

In the Triangle, 'd go with Old Time Barbecue in Raleigh and Danny's Bar-B-que http://www.dannysbarbque.com/

In Charlotte, I'd recommend Bubba's.
