  BlueNC makes some interesting points on how the media and government reports the country’s current stance with our need for oil.   With quotes from various sources and a few numbers on the amount of oil the USA actually exports, this post was informal and surprising.

  I just read an interesting post about how the couples dog wouldnt’ respond to the wife when trying to apply some flea medicine before going to work but the husband had no problem later on the same day.  The husbands response after his success with the dog was priceless.  Take a look.

• Is that poison ivy in your yard? Here’s a $100 fine.

  The city of Raleigh used to be able to fine its residents $100 if poison ivy was spotted growing in their yards. True story, or so says the N & O, but that ordinance was repealed in 2005, much to the ire of one 73-year-old East Raleigh resident who sees it growing next door.

• A shelter dog for Obama

  Do online petitions work? It seems hand-signed petitions gathered by using some old-fashioned shoe leather would carry more weight. At any rate, an online petition is circulating urging the Obama family to adopt a homeless dog once the campaign is over, a Durham dog shelter volunteer has the details.

• Upscale Raleigh restaurant has yet to turn a profit

  The city of Raleigh spent $1 million to help get The Mint to open on Fayetteville Street. The N & O reports today that the white-tablecloth restaurant (where the average dinner entree will put you back $28) hopes to break even in its first year. Is it getting unfair scrutiny since it was city subsidized?
